This Week's Property Insurance Checklists, All in One Place
This week, we ran through four quick checklists covering the most common property insurance gaps we see.
For homeowners, we flagged three signs a policy is overdue for review: no review in three-plus years, renovations since the policy was written, and valuables that exceed standard coverage limits. For landlords, the signs pointed to properties still sitting on an original homeowners policy despite being rented out, with no protection for lost income if a unit becomes unlivable. For vacant properties, the risk factors were time empty, active renovation, and lack of regular check-ins — all conditions that can trigger a policy's vacancy clause. And for construction projects, the gap usually comes down to relying solely on a contractor's insurance, which covers their liability but not the structure or materials on-site.
The common denominator across all four: these gaps rarely show up until a claim does.
UPIX covers homeowners, rental properties, vacant/builder's risk, and ground-up construction across New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Texas. If any of this week's checklists hit close to home, it's worth a quick review before it becomes a real problem.
