Questions before you request options

What should I check before a newly licensed driver uses our car?

Ask whether the insurer needs notice or must list the driver, which vehicle the person will use and when the confirmed arrangement takes effect. A parent’s ownership does not establish automatic coverage. Acceptance and any student or training discount depend on the insurer’s requirements; neither is guaranteed.

Does “full coverage” satisfy my financing agreement?

Not necessarily. Ask for the actual coverage names, limits and allowed deductibles, then compare them with your loan or lease agreement. Confirm the lender listing as well. Do not remove collision or comprehensive without checking the contract; neither coverage protects against every possible loss.

Can I cancel my old policy as soon as I request insurance for a move?

No. Ask whether your existing policy can be updated or a New Jersey replacement is needed. Confirm approval, issued coverage and its effective date before requesting cancellation. License, title and registration changes are separate NJ MVC procedures; an insurance request does not complete them.
