Your sale price is only part of the picture

A home’s market price reflects factors such as location and land. Rebuilding the structure involves a different calculation. When reviewing insurance, ask how the dwelling limit was estimated and whether the building details used in that estimate are accurate.

Review the features that matter

Share additions, major renovations, unusual finishes and changes in square footage. Ask your agent to walk through the estimate rather than choosing a limit solely from a real estate listing or mortgage balance. Replacement cost coverage and actual cash value coverage also settle losses differently; depreciation can matter under actual cash value terms.

Ask about the full settlement process

A replacement cost label does not remove every condition or limit. Ask whether repair or replacement is required to receive certain amounts, how deductibles apply and what happens if rebuilding costs exceed the stated limit. Obtain explanations of any extended replacement cost or similar options offered. Keep renovation records so future reviews begin with updated information.

A request does not bind, change or guarantee coverage. Policy terms, limits, exclusions, insurer eligibility and property details determine available options.
