What do I need to start an auto insurance quote in NJ?

You do not need to collect every document before you ask a question. A useful first request tells the agency who to contact and which vehicle and ZIP code to discuss.

Start with the essentials

UPIX's initial auto form asks for your name, five-digit ZIP code, vehicle year/make/model (or that you are still shopping), preferred language and a reachable phone number or email. Tell the team if the car is usually kept at a different address.

  • Vehicle: year, make and model; VIN may be requested later to identify an exact vehicle.
  • Household: who drives, where the vehicle is normally garaged, and how it is used.
  • Current policy: declarations, limits, deductibles and renewal date if comparing coverage.

What to share later—and how

To complete a quote, an insurer may need the VIN, driver details and driving or prior-insurance history. Discuss the appropriate secure channel with the agency. Do not enter a Social Security number, payment card, or full driver's license number in the initial UPIX web form or an unsolicited message.

A web request starts a conversation. It does not issue proof of insurance or start, change or cancel a policy; confirm coverage and its effective date with the agency and insurer.
