The insurance review belongs on the project schedule

A renovation can change how a property is used before the finished space is ready. Tell your agent about the project before demolition or construction begins. Explain whether the building will remain occupied and whether the work involves structural changes.

Understand the role of builders risk

Builders risk can address insured physical damage to a construction project and covered materials, subject to the policy. It does not replace every insurance need connected to the work. Ask how the owner, contractor and other parties will be represented and what separate liability coverage should be reviewed.

Confirm the beginning and end of coverage

Prepare the contract, project budget, start date and expected completion date. Ask about materials stored away from the site, transportation, theft and weather exposures without assuming they are included. Review deductibles and exclusions. If the project runs late or the scope changes, contact your agent promptly. Before occupancy or completion, discuss the transition to the appropriate permanent property coverage.

A request does not bind, change or guarantee coverage. Policy terms, limits, exclusions, insurer eligibility and property details determine available options.
